چکیده
Abstract Pomegranate ( Punica granatum L.) belongs to the Punicaceae plant family. It is an important fruit due its nutritional and medicinal properties. Pomegranates are widely distributed around world and, therefore, have a broad genetic diversity, resulting in differences their phytochemical composition. The scientific community has focused on positive health effects of pomegranate as whole, but different varieties rarely been compared according bioactive compounds bioactivity. This review aims provide holistic overview current knowledge bioactivity trees, with emphasis differentiating both parts. intends general organized accumulated pomegranates, identification most varieties, potential consumption pathways seeks present gaps guide future research.

Pomegranate fruit undergoes several biochemical changes during growth and ripening on tree leading to the fruit to reach an optimal quality at full ripening stage. These changes are increase in sugar concentration (glucose and fructose), diminution in total acidity (citric and malic acids) and increase in anthocyanin concentration. In addition an increase occurs in antioxidant activity which re...

Pomegranate fruit presents strong anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiobesity, and antitumoral properties, thus leading to an increased popularity as a functional food and nutraceutical source since ancient times. It can be divided into three parts: seeds, peel, and juice, all of which seem to have medicinal benefits. Several studies investigate its bioactive components as a means to associate ...

Pomegranate polyphenols are potent antioxidants and chemopreventive agents but have low bioavailability and a short half-life. For example, punicalagin (PU), the major polyphenol in pomegranates, is not absorbed in its intact form but is hydrolyzed to ellagic acid (EA) moieties and rapidly metabolized into short-lived metabolites of EA. We hypothesized that encapsulation of pomegranate polyphen...
